An Attempt to Analyze Google Penguin 3.0 Update

Submitted by Soumyadip Saha on October 21, 2014

Google-Penguin-Update 3

A Google representative has confirmed that Penguin 3.0 update has rolled out. The subject of much speculation since last few days, this update marks the first update to Penguin algorithm over a year. On October 9th, Bruce Clay on a link building session pointed out that sources made him believe that a Penguin update is due within next ten days. And the update has rolled out in less than ten days. Google has not yet made any details clear apart from notifying about the launch of the update. Thus, the percentage of search results that will be affected by the update is still unclear.

Penguin 3.0 Update: A Softer Algorithm Update

Just like Panda 4.1 and 4.0, this new algorithm is softer. Google is however bettering itself at identification of bad links automatically. Manual audit of the backlinks is advocated especially for websites that are subjected to a penalty. This is done with the belief that another human being is at the end of the reconsideration request deciding whether the manipulative links have been dealt with. Penguin does not offer this luxury.

Websites Acquiring Links unnaturally will be affected

The number of queries affected by launch of this update is quite significant. The nature of the algorithm suggests that the valuable keywords in search results will be affected. Just like other Penguin updates, this new update will affect the websites that acquired an array of links through unnatural means.

How to Recover from Penguin Update?

The way to recover sites that are impacted by Penguin algorithm is more or less similar to websites suffering from effects of manual action impacting link. The difference that lies here is that there will be no reconsideration request. A list of links has to be pulled out. Then each website has to be checked out meticulously and manually. The best way to avoid getting affected by this update is creating a great website and being careful with link building and building up of quality social signals. Moreover, pay more attention towards linking domain relevance, strategizing on-page SEO properly and carving better brand presence.

Everyone needs to check out on link profile frequently to ensure it is clean. If it is not clean, it is time to do something to help it and disavow the spammy links before Penguin rolls out another update. If that appears a hassle, try to survive without Google organic traffic for a year.
